Residential Solar Grants in Ireland

Homeowners in Ireland may be eligible for grant support towards solar PV panels, EV home chargers and solar thermal hot water systems. Abel helps make the process easier by guiding customers through the available options and explaining which grants may apply to their home.

Up to €1,800

Solar PV Grant

The SEAI Solar PV grant supports homeowners who install solar photovoltaic panels to generate electricity for their home.

Grant amount:

  • €700 per kWp up to 2kWp
  • €200 per additional kWp up to 4kWp
  • Maximum grant of €1,800 for systems of 4kWp or more

Key eligibility points:

  • Available to homeowners, including landlords.
  • The home must have an MPRN.
  • The home must have been built and occupied before 31 December 2020.
  • The property must not have received previous Solar PV grant funding at that MPRN.
  • Grant approval must be in place before works begin or materials are purchased.
Up to €300

EV Home Charger Grant

The SEAI EV home charger grant helps homeowners with the cost of purchasing and installing an electric vehicle charging point at home.

Grant amount:

  • Up to €300 towards the purchase and installation of a home EV charger.

Key eligibility points:

  • The charger must meet SEAI requirements.
  • The installation must be completed by a Safe Electric Registered Electrical Contractor.
  • The charger should be a smart charger listed on the SEAI smart charger register.
  • The customer must meet the eligibility criteria set out by SEAI.

Solar Thermal Hot Water Grant

The SEAI Solar Thermal grant supports the installation of solar water heating systems. This is separate from the Solar PV grant, as solar thermal panels are used to heat water rather than generate electricity.

Grant amount:

  • €1,200 for an eligible solar thermal hot water system.

Key eligibility points:

  • The property must be owned by an eligible applicant type.
  • The home must have an MPRN.
  • The home must have been built and occupied before 2021.
  • The system must be designed to meet SEAI technical requirements.
  • The system should be sized appropriately for the full home.
